Drywall repair and texture matching

Holes, cracks and water-damaged ceilings patched so you can't find them. Alex matches orange peel, knockdown and popcorn texture, and repaints to a natural break.

What Alex does

  • Patching holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Matching orange peel, knockdown and popcorn ceiling texture
  • Water-damage repair once the source of the water is fixed
  • Repainting to blend the repair in

Why a patch shows

Usually it's the texture or the sheen that doesn't match, not the color. Hold a lamp low across the wall: texture mismatch only shows in raking light. The fix is to match the texture first, then repaint to a natural break like corner to corner. Matching is skilled work and is never perfect on a heavily lit wall, and old popcorn and hand-troweled textures are the hardest.

Water damage

Drywall is paper and gypsum, and once it's soaked it can sag, stain and grow mold. The source gets fixed first, wet material is dried or cut out, and then new drywall is hung, taped, textured and painted. A patch over a still-leaking pipe or roof will fail. A small, dry stain is one thing; soft, bulging, musty or recurring is another.

Older homes

Homes built before 1980 can have asbestos in popcorn ceilings and wall texture, and before 1978 lead paint. Both should be tested before anyone sands or scrapes. Don't scrape a popcorn ceiling yourself first, and ask Alex before work starts.

Where it gets bigger

Large or widespread mold, sewage, or wet insulation in several rooms is a job for a restoration company first. A leaking pipe is a plumber's job, and a leaking roof is a roofer's.

What it costs

Drywall repair, Denver: $276 to $750, averaging about $495 (Angi, 2026). Drywall repair, Denver: $200 to $750 on average, with labor of $40 to $100 an hour and a $125 to $200 minimum trip fee (HomeGuide, 2026). Textured walls, tall ceilings and heavy prep add to these. Matching an old popcorn or hand-troweled texture usually costs more. Those are published price guides, not Alex's prices. Alex prices it after he sees it.
